As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

A Waqf can be declared as effective starting from a future date. For example, the Waqif can declare that his property will be a Waqf next year on the 10th of January. This is the position of the AAOIFI Shariah Standards and is based on the Maliki school of Fiqh. [AAOIFI Shariah Standards]

However, according to the Hanafi, Shafi’i and Hanbali schools of Islamic law, a Waqf must be executed at present and cannot be deferred to a future date. [Hashiyah ibn Abidin, al-Rawdah, Mughni al-Muhtaj, al-Mughi]
